Feeding the hungry
Feeding people is an important ministry of Nativity, feeding body, mind and soul. We have a food basket and collect food every month for the food pantry. “Saturday Supper” is a free community meal on the middle and last Saturday of each month. We are responsible for the meal on the fourth Wednesday of each month at the Salvation Army soup kitchen. We also provide supper once a month for the Snake River Community Clinic, the free health clinic in town. There are many ways to help in our efforts to feed people, by bringing food, by cooking, serving, cleaning, or simply by offering monetary help for our efforts.
Housing the homeless
Nativity is a host congregation for “Family Promise of the LC Valley” the church-based homeless shelter program. About every 10 weeks we host our guests in the church building, and are responsible for meals and provide evening and overnight hosts for the week. Volunteers are always needed to help with set up and clean up, as well as providing meals and being a host.
Clothing the naked
Our knitting group gathers weekly for knitting and fellowship. Part of their ministry includes knitting helmet liners for soldiers, caps for sailers, prayer shawls for the sick, afgans for those in nursing homes, as well as such items as socks, socks and sweaters. The Chancel Guild holds an annual rummage sale with items of clothing at very low prices as both an outreach ministry and small fund raiser.
Serving Christ in all people
We don’t all have the same passions and gifts, but all are called to seek adn to serve Christ. At Nativity we encourage all of our members to find ways to “serve Christ in the community” by finding areas where the needs of the world meet their passion. Members volunteer in many and diverse ways such as at our hospital, at the library, in our schools, at the free health clinic, and with disaster relief. In all these ways of service we both represent Christ and serve Chirst.
